Apple_27-inch_LED_Cinema_DisplayApple today unveiled a 27-inch version of its LED Cinema Display. The 2,560 x 1,440 resolution screen features a built-in iSight video camera, microphone and speakers, a powered three-port USB 2.0 hub, and a universal MagSafe connector to keep Mac notebooks charged. The company described the $999 monitor as “an ideal companion for the MacBook family or a Mac desktop”.

“It gives iMac users an easy way to double their screen real estate,” added Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing.

The 16:9 edge-to-edge glass display sits on an aluminium stand. Apple said its “vivid colours” and “exceptionally high contrast” were complimented by in-plane switching, which provides an ultra-wide 178-degree viewing angle.

A new ambient light sensor also automatically adjusts the display’s brightness based on external lighting conditions.

It will be available in September through the Apple Store, with international pricing still to be announced.
