Škoda Auto has unveiled Škoda X, a cutting-edge technology center dedicated to the development and implementation of digital and smart services. This new division, which emerges from the previous Škoda Auto DigiLab, aims to enhance owner convenience across all Škoda models, including the Enyaq iV.

Škoda X’s initial focus is on testing peer-to-peer car hire services, enabling private owners to rent out their vehicles to individuals who don’t require full-time ownership. This car-sharing concept provides a wider range of vehicles to meet user demands. Additionally, Škoda dealers will utilize this system to offer extended test drives of models like the Enyaq iV to potential customers.

Based in Prague, the innovation hub is also piloting an energy storage facility that repurposes battery modules from previous Enyaq iV models. These recycled batteries will power standalone charging stations for electric vehicles, providing a practical solution where building numerous charging points may not be feasible.

Škoda X will also be the central hub for various ongoing technology trials across Europe, including the Pay to Fuel service accessible through the vehicle’s infotainment system. Pay to Fuel leverages GPS technology to identify the refueling location and prompts customers to enter the pump number, eliminating the need to queue for payment. The service seamlessly processes transactions using the credit card stored in the infotainment system.

Another service, the Škoda Digital Certificate (DigiCert), accessible through Care Connect Remote Access, offers comprehensive vehicle data, including identification, technical specifications, mileage, prepaid service, warranty extensions, and complete service history. The DigiCert automatically records the vehicle’s mileage on a weekly basis, enhancing buyer and seller confidence in the vehicle’s condition.

While Škoda X will lead the creation and development of these services, the company aims to collaborate with European start-ups to accelerate technological advancements efficiently.

Following successful trials, Škoda plans to expand the innovative systems to additional European markets, including the UK.
