E3 is just around the corner so you’d expect Sony to have a few things up its sleeves. Would a new PS3 be one of them.
According to informaiton unearthed by Engadget, the company has submitted four new models to the FCC in the US. While unlikely to be a redesign, the models will probably feature new chipsets.
The PS3 models sports the serial numbers of CECH-2501A and CECH-2501B, with both including 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Another two are listed as debug consoles, unlikely to see the light of day outside of Sony’s R&D facilities.
The notes underneath the model listing confirms that the CECH-2501B “is similar to the tested model CECH-2501A except for HDD type,” which could mean a PS3 with an even bigger capacity than current models.
