The company is set to increase its fast broadband network to 66 per cent of the UK.
BT has originally planned to cover 40 per cent of the country with its next-generation broadband to 40 per cent of homes, 10 million households, by 2013. But the project has now come ahead of schedule and is expected to finish by 2012.
According to reports by the Financial Times, the plan is expected to be announced by BT chief Ian Livingston, but the company has refused to speculation that the expansion is a way of encouraging other ISPs to rent the high-speed cabling.
