It was a matter of when not if HTC would release an Android-powered tablet, but reports from Taiwan suggest that the manufacturer could be launching a Google-powered tablet as early as next year.
According to Taiwan tech publication Digitimes, the new device could feature Android 3.0 (Gingerbread). Just this week Google poured cold water on the idea of the company’s most recent flavour of Android, Froyo 2.2 and said tablets using 2.2 would not offer the full-on Android experience.
HTC’s rivals, Samsung, LG and Toshiba have already come out with Android-powered devices using 2.2 or previous versions of the OS.
An HTC tablet would mark a serious rival to dominant Apple and its iPad.
