Rumour has it that music streaming web service Spotify and Virgin are on the brink of hammering out a deal that will allow Virgin Media customers to stream music through their tellies.
While neither company was prepared to comment on the speculation, the move comes following the breakdown of talks with record companies. This left Virgin Media own streaming service on the “backburner”, according to the Daily Telegraph.
A deal with Spotify would mean that a music streaming service could come online almost immediately.
A source close to Spotify told the Telegraph: “Spotify and Virgin Media are close to concluding a partnership deal. The finer details are not yet known, but Spotify will be offering new tools and content exclusively to Virgin customers as part of the arrangement.”
It is probable that Virgin would offer music downloads as part of a package, along with its cable TV, fibre-optic broadband, and phone services.
