Orange T-Mobile logoMobile phone operator Orange has made an offer to buy T-Mobile UK, according to reports. UK newspaper The Guardian claims Orange’s parent France Telecom made the offer to T-Mobile UK’s parent company Deutsche Telekom, but had it rejected.

The Guardian claims that the offer was made in the past few months, while speculation in the industry had instead pointed to a merger between T-Mobile and 3.

Deutsche Telekom recently dropped the value of T-Mobile UK, following extremely poor quarterly results.

New T-Mobile UK boss Richard Moat joins this week and is expected to begin restructuring the firm, although the company is also likely to take any bids from private equity firms for the business very seriously.

Other industry rumours claim that Vodafone would be willing to swap its Turkish telecoms business in exchange for T-Mobile UK, adding to Deutsche Telekom’s holdings in a region where that company already controls Greek operator OTE.
