Crucial turns the SSD dial up to 11 with the launch of its fastest and biggest consumer drives yet — the T710 Gen5 NVMe SSD and the portable X10 — both revealed today at Computex 2025 by parent company Micron.

The Crucial T710 throws down the gauntlet in the Gen5 SSD arena, delivering scorching sequential read speeds of up to 14,900MB/s and write speeds nudging 13,800MB/s. That’s paired with up to 2.3 million random write IOPS and improved efficiency, with Micron claiming a 67% boost in IOPS per watt over previous Gen5 drives.

Built around Micron’s own G9 NAND and Silicon Motion’s new SM2508 controller, the T710 has one eye firmly on the exploding AI PC market. According to Micron, the drive is fast enough to load an entire large language model into system memory in under a second, thanks to lower latency and better power efficiency. It’ll ship in capacities up to 4TB, with optional integrated heatsinks for those pushing thermal limits.

Meanwhile, the Crucial X10 aims to be the data vault you can chuck in a backpack. With a ruggedised matte blue enclosure, the X10 is rated IP65 for water and dust resistance and is drop-tested to nearly 10 feet. Underneath its tough exterior lies a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface and Silicon Motion SM2322 controller, capable of 2,100MB/s read speeds — twice as fast as the previous generation.

Micron is offering the X10 in configurations up to a rather ridiculous 8TB — enough to stash 500,000 4K photos, 114 AAA games or a lifetime supply of poorly-labelled downloads. It’s squarely aimed at mobile creatives, gamers, and anyone who has ever tried to back up their life to the cloud and given up in frustration.

Speaking at the launch, Dinesh Bahal, Micron’s commercial products VP, pitched the new drives as the ideal solution for anyone working on the move or dealing with high-bandwidth workloads. “Our fastest Gen5 drive yet, the Crucial T710 SSD turbocharges gaming and creative applications,” he said. “Meanwhile, our X10 portable drive is a powerhouse, effortlessly handling massive backups, games and photo libraries — no matter where life takes you or what it throws your way.”

Silicon Motion’s SVP Nelson Duann also chimed in, highlighting the SM2508 controller’s role in keeping things cool while delivering what he called “game-changing Gen5 performance” — not just for gamers, but also for AI and workstation users.

The Crucial X10 is available now from retailers and channel partners worldwide, while the T710 is expected to land in July. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but expect premium speeds to come with a premium tag — and possibly a warning about thermal throttling if you skip the heatsink.
