Warcraft maker Blizzard has officially been declared the most
bankable game studio in the world, mainly thanks to its ridiculously
popular MMO, which accounts for most of its $1.34 billion annual
revenue.

The list
of the top 100 studios was compiled by Develop magazine, who release
an annual countdown. Last year’s leader, Nintendo, has been
knocked down to second place.

Fancy the
top ten? Here you go, then:

  1. Blizzard
    Entertainment

  2. Nintendo

  3. Rockstar
    North (Grand Theft Auto, Manhunt)

  4. EA
    Canada (Need for Speed, Skate)

  5. Capcom
    (Resident Evil, Street Fighter)

  6. Ubisoft
Montreal (Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed)

  7. Treyarch
(Tony Hawk, half of the Call of Duty series)

  8. Infinity
Ward (the other half of the Call of Duty series)

  9. Epic
    Games (Gears of War, Unreal)

  10. Bethesda
Softworks (The Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3)

The U.K.
did very nicely, with 26 studios in the list – apart from
Rockstar’s success, Lego Star Wars boys Traveller’s Tales
hit the 12th spot, LittleBigPlanet devs Media Molecule
were 18th, and Fable fellows Lionhead were in at the 22nd
place.
