BBC iPlayer high-definition HD content Twitter Jana Bennett Financial Times Digital Media ConferenceIt’s everyone’s favourite online on-demand video streamer, and now the BBC’s iPlayer is going to be spruced up with the addition of high-definition content.

While there hasn’t been an official statement as yet, several reputable sources have talked about it on Twitter and the launch is expected next month.

Additionally, Jana Bennett, director of BBC Vision and the person in charge of the iPlayer, discussed the addition of HD at the Financial Times Digital Media and Broadcasting Conference.

No concrete details are as yet available, but apparently we won’t have to wait too long.

That’s great news for everyone except ISP providers, who are complaining that the iPlayer eats up a lot of extra bandwidth as it is without extra HD support.
