There are tough times in the world at the moment, but travel website Expedia felt comfortable enough to take a little vacation of its own today.
“We’re building a better travel site,” the home page read earlier today, making us wonder if travel has escaped the credit crunch if you can turn away punters on a Saturday.
“Expedia is temporarily unavailable while we improve the travel tools and services that you rely on,” the message continued.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience. We look forward to helping you find your perfect trip—be sure to check back with us shortly.”
The site was back online later in the day, but the outage during daytime throws up some interesting questions:
* Are so many people shopping for personal stuff like holidays during work time that weekends are actually a dead period?
* Or is the 2am graveyard slot when most sites do maintenance actually a peak buying time for travellers?
